Letter: Two sets of rules

A recent story in the ADN showed and described several large gatherings in the Mat-Su region — at no time was there evidence of active use of social distancing or personal protective equipment (face mask) use. This makes me wonder: How many of these participants came back into Anchorage and, after potential contact with a COVID-19 infection, passed it to their bubble?

While residents of Anchorage are faced with increased restrictions and restaurants and bars have been closed, for all practical purposes, the Mat-Su is wide open. Where is the consistent approach in containing and reducing the spread of the COVID-19 infection rate?

What I see is the mechanism in place to continue the exponential spread of this disease, facilitated by lack of uniform basic methods of exposure reduction. The two largest population centers in Alaska have contradictory pandemic containment methods and they share a population. The state administration needs to consider a uniform active response.
