Letters to the Editor

Letter: School questions

I read the editorial arguing for K-6 students to resume in-person school, but having them spread out across all of the district’s schools. There was no mention of teacher staffing levels. If a teacher is assigned 20 students, will they have 10 students in one room and 10 in another? If so, who will monitor the second classroom? Will half of a kindergarten class be in a classroom with no monitoring half of the day? Or does the district need to double teacher staffing? Or assign every teacher a teacher aide to monitor one of the classes?

I don’t necessarily oppose or support your plan, but how do you propose Anchorage School District handle staffing and classroom monitoring for the same number of kids and teachers in twice the number of classrooms?
