Letters to the Editor

Letter: Anonymous sources

I’m weighing in on the controversy surrounding President Donald Trump’s alleged comment about deceased veterans being “losers” and “suckers.” The story has an anonymous source. Despite no one coming forward using their name, several formerly reputable papers reported the story anyway.

Having an anonymous source is a really convenient way to sell a paper, and the statement never has to be proven or based in fact. Recently, I watched an interview with Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was traveling on that trip with President Trump as press secretary. She said the comment was not made. Even John Bolton, the former National Security Advisor, who is no fan of President Trump, denies the statement was made. These first-person accounts are much more credible than a rumor. As a retired military member, I support our commander-in-chief.
