Letter: Stories of kindness

We are home delivery subscribers to the Anchorage Daily News. There are many reasons we look forward to holding the paper in our hands each morning. Topping the list is Ned Rozell’s weekly column, “Alaska Science.” In particular was the column “Return to fatal crash site is emotional, healing.” This recounting of a May small plane crash at Teshekpuk Lake involving Ben Jones and pilot Jim Webster took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes.

Ben’s account of his hours talking with his friend Jim was a loving and honest account of two humans connecting and consoling each other in a very bad situation. How wonderful that Ben was reassured that his work in the North should be continued without fear of future crashes. Melissa, Ben’s wife, and Lillian, their daughter, also received the gift of a husband and father helped toward healing through a gift of conversation from a dying friend.

Thank you, ADN, for the many stories you publish that point out the good that each individual is capable of through such simple acts of kindness.
