Letters to the Editor

Letter: Oil transition

Rick Whitbeck, Alaska State Director of Power the Future, placed a letter to the editor recently. He must be living in a cave, or have his head completely buried in the sand. The world is progressively moving away from fossil fuels. That is a fact. Oil, coal, etc are on their way out. For the good of the planet. Renewable energy is on the rise. This is a progressive process. It will not happen overnight, but it is happening. The world sees it.

BP, for one, is investing great sums of money in developing alternative energy sources, as I’m sure are many other companies that do not want to fade away in the new age are. Joe Biden gets that. He has never said he is going to “close down the oil industry”. He has emphasized that he will “transition from the oil industry”. Yes! The key word is transition. Not kill it overnight. It needs to happen over time. It’s the way the world is going, and is the right thing to do for our planet, as well as the energy industry in general, in the long term and for the long run.
