Letter: Against East renaming

I am a proud East High alumna and have always been proud of how diverse it is. My whole family, my husband’s family and our children are also East High alumni. I feel that we are better people because we went to school in a diverse environment.

To rename East High after anyone was disrespectful to those of other genders, ethnicities and backgrounds. East High stands for diversity, and to lose that was a tragedy. The school board caved to a small, vocal minority group and took the easy way out. Renaming our school dishonored its legacy.
