Letter: Hold enablers accountable

Regarding the Nov. 19 article by Kyle Hopkins with the headline “Woman says top Dunleavy official knew of attorney general’s misconduct, was slow to act,” a couple of things.

First, thank you for the long-form journalism. I have been noticing that the paper seems to be adding a few of these. They are awesome.

Second, I wouldn’t mind working with Ben Stevens someday. He is a villain, but he is also amazing in his ability to survive and thrive in a second act. I suspect he is a master in terms of understanding power in the context of our elected government. However, he is not being truthful in this article, to put it mildly. He sat on this sexual harrassment issue for two months, and I doubt he or the governor would have acted aggressively or really done anything about it until it became public, outside of his inaction bubble. It was a passive cover-up.

If we are going to get serious about sexual assault, harassment, equal treatment, etc. for all human beings (and in this case a woman), the enablers and protectors need to be held accountable. This case is an interesting compare-and-contrast scenario relative to the situation with Ethan Berkowitz. Where is the QAnon crowd now? Oh, I forgot. It’s all about maintaining power and selective, arbitrary application of agrievement. Women who were actually threatened and then a cover-up by the titans, à la Parnell and the National Guard sexual harassment scandal? Ah, no big deal.
