Letter: COVID-19 relief needed now

With the election over, I was hoping the Senate would begin to focus on the immediate, dire needs of our citizens. I thought Mitch McConnell was ready, but apparently not. There are families looking at loss of home, loss of jobs, hunger and even more suffering during the pandemic. Their Christmas gift will not be a bonus, rather termination of unemployment benefits and loss of eviction protection.

Census.gov data indicates that from Oct. 28 to Nov. 9, 36.5% of Alaskans were in fear of eviction or foreclosure. In that same period, 8.6% faced food scarcity. Many of them are children, seniors and the disabled. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Sen. Dan Sullivan must step up and speak up. Our Congress must act and pass a robust COVID-19 relief bill. Shame on them if they leave our citizens out in the cold.
