Letter: Vaccine outreach

The work of all those who reached out to and vaccinated seniors at the Anchorage School District Education Center has been heroic and compassionate. I applaud the state and local public health agencies for doing their best with a difficult job. I am deeply grateful to all those working at the vaccination sites.

That said, I fear that whole groups of seniors are being left out. While getting a COVID-19 vaccine I did observe that the seniors there had to be computer literate and/or assertive, competent and mobile to be there. I saw only what appeared to be white, well and warmly dressed, competent and briskly moving people in my age group. The addition of a telephone number to call in Friday’s ADN is a welcome step to include other seniors in our diverse population. A more vigorous outreach would make senior vaccination more equitable.
