Letter: Ferry idea

In his recent commentary, Frank Murkowski had a very good idea but with the wrong vessels. Malaspina and Columbia are not “ocean” certified by the Coast Guard and would not be allowed to carry passengers across the Gulf of Alaska.

Kennecott and Tustamena are ocean certified and could do it. Leave the Columbia and Malaspina on the Bellingham-to-Haines-and-Skagway run, with stops in Ketchikan, Juneau and Sitka.
