Letter: Graduation regalia

The idea that it is racist to not allow people to wear anything they want to a public school graduation ceremony is offensive. Graduation is about celebrating the completion of a set academic requirements that all graduates meet. It is not about celebrating one’s culture, one’s political views or one’s religious beliefs. You are free to do all those things after the ceremony.

Keeping the ceremony simple and uniform is inclusive and keeps the focus on the shared achievement.
