Letters to the Editor

Letter: Foreign policy disaster

It is no longer possible to deny that the “Party of Lincoln” has become the “Cult of Trump.” Capable Republicans have been marginalized. Blind loyalty to Donald Trump is now the only criterion for success in today’s GOP.

Democrats have little cause for jubilation. While their ranks are largely free of cult-of-personality groupthink, the Democratic faithful are not immune to blind loyalty. On the domestic front, those loyalties are generally admirable. In foreign policy, however, most Democrats share with most Republicans a dangerous, blind loyalty to the (expansionist) state of Israel. President Joe Biden, in a recent call to the Prime Minister of Israel, expressed America’s “unwavering support.”

The Biden administration, like virtually every prior administration of either party, has been silent on Israel’s continuing policy of ethnic cleansing, and has generously financed this cruel and illegal operation. Though it may require another 100 years, there seems to be little doubt that Israel will succeed in achieving the goals of this policy. Considering that the ultranationalists and ultraorthodox in Israel have children at a rate several times that of progressive, peace-loving Israelis, it is not too difficult to imagine what the future of that region will be.
