Letter: The worth of badges

There is an old joke about a government agent coming to a farm for an inspection. Warned not go into one specific field, he boasted, “I am an official of the government and here is my badge, and I will go wherever I want to go.” When the bull in that field spots him, and he is running for his life, the farmer yells, “Show him your badge!”

I see a little of that in the recent commentary from Margaret Stock.
