Letters to the Editor

Letter: Where is our delegation?

The members of our Alaska congressional delegation have each publicly condemned President Joe Biden and his administration for policy decisions related to oil drilling, pandemic mandates, tax system changes, etc.

I have not heard any public statement from any of them related to the outrageous uncivil and, in my opinion, dangerous public comments of your congressional colleagues — Reps. Lauren Boebert, Paul Gosar, Marjorie Taylor Greene and others. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Rep. Don Young both have enough years in Congress to be well aware of the expected decorum and behavior of your congressional colleagues. I ask them to please help those of us who still — sometimes by a shred — trust our elected officials to model the way of responsible leadership. Stand up for civility.

When faced with an Islamophobic comment about then-candidate Barack Obama from a supporter, Sen. John McCain immediately and publicly rebuffed her slur. We need to hear our delegation speak up. Silence is assent.
