Letters to the Editor

Letter: The bare minimum

I can’t speak for all Democrats, even though I am one. I would never try to. But, if the special election congressional race results remain as they are, it should come as no surprise that I will be voting for Mary Peltola and Al Gross first, and other candidates third.

However, I need one thing. Just one modest, reasonable request. Can either Nick Begich III or Sarah Palin say, publicly, that the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection was bad? How about that the insurrection was “wrong” or even, “inappropriate” or “dangerous?” Can they say that the previous president had a modicum of involvement in it? Even just a little? That might be helpful too. I am asking for one of them to sound just a tiny, little bit like Liz Cheney — just once. You know, patriotic.

We can disagree on 99% of the issues, but you gotta believe in democracy and the rule of law. That’s it. That’s my very low standard. You can even support the Pebble mine. I’ll let it go this time. If either candidate can say something like the above, I will vote for them third and it may just help get them elected to Congress. If they can’t, my pen will run out of ink.
