Letter: Escalating firepower

Will recent GOP proposals to arm teachers fall short? Understand that a mere semi-automatic pistol would be ineffective against an intruder packing an assault rifle. Teachers must have equal firepower if we are going to rise up and make them into our new middle school militia. An AR-15 and several high-capacity magazines are what the “good guy” teachers must have, since we now know that’s the weapon of choice for “bad guys.”

Talking heads on Fox News have suggested bulletproof blankets issued to the children are the answer. Something fun maybe, in a camouflage print? Body armor for the teachers should be a standard-issue uniform if we want to get serious. It gets a little heavy by lunchtime, but it’s the right thing to do.
