Letter: Thankful for good representation

Alaskans can’t help but feel excited about Mary Peltola’s recent election to the U.S. House of Representatives. It was especially encouraging to see that Sen. Lisa Murkowski attended the swearing-in ceremony and to see her mention the historic nature of Peltola’s achievement.

Murkowski is one of the few in her party who has the courage to stay above the crazy conspiracy theories and authoritarianism that have engulfed much of the Republican Party. Her center-right views and Peltola’s center-left views overlap strongly with those of most Alaskans.

Moreover, their presence in Washington, D.C., means that now two of our three U.S. congressional representatives are persons of integrity who recognize the threat that our democracy faces from those who still promote the lie that the 2020 election was stolen.
