Letters to the Editor

Letter: Work longer hours

I have a friend who drives a dump truck at the Red Dog Mine. He’s on the night shift. When I was a “juggy” on the North Slope, we moved the cable, 16-18 hours per day, and then the “vib-ops” would register the readings all night. When the opener closed commercial fishing for the day, we were at the back of the line to the tender. I don’t know how late those guys were up. Shoot, I held the flashlight one night because my brother had to finish a raking job at our neighbor’s house. We were children.

The point being, I drove by the Dowling/Seward Highway interchange Thursday evening around 7:30 p.m. and there was a lot of heavy equipment just sitting around. It was still light out.

I should have gotten a degree in construction management or civil engineering.
