Letter: Community service for Congress

Since it’s doubtful our newly elected U.S. House of Representatives will get anything accomplished in the next two years, except for investigating Democrats, here’s a suggestion that might help fill some of their time and yield some positive benefits: Community service.

Taking a page from the Mormons, whose youth perform community-service missions, new House members could become involved in a scaled-down version of the program, spending a couple of months helping people in impoverished areas across America. I can’t help but think that the exposure to real-world human situations might do them some good. This is a long shot, but perhaps it might ultimately result in some good for our country.
