Letter: Tribal regalia allowed at graduation

Graduation season is upon us. We extend a heartfelt congratulations to all our students on this important accomplishment.

A recent change in state law now prohibits school districts from policies that bar “wearing traditional tribal regalia or objects of cultural significance at a graduation ceremony.” This change in the law came from a bill we collaborated on last year with Sen. David Wilson. This is the first graduation season the new law is in effect.

So, happy graduation, seniors, and may your graduation ceremonies be beautiful celebrations where students can celebrate with their tribal regalia and share their culture with pride, with the knowledge that our state law supports them!
