Letter: Will Alaska lawmakers commit to an education funding override?

A joint session of the Alaska Legislature watched Gov. Mike Dunleavy deliver his seventh State of the State address in the state Capitol on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025 (Sean Maguire/ADN).

In the past couple of months, there have been a number of Alaska state legislators who have committed to increasing funding for our schools. There doesn’t seem to be much doubt that bipartisan legislation will be approved to do just that, similar to the bill that was vetoed last year. Does your commitment to support and pass legislation to increase school funding include your vote to override a governor’s veto? The goal of your constituents is to make it happen. A governor’s veto does not make it happen.
