Some crazy events at Arctic Valley's Merry Marmot festival

Blessed with a fresh coat of midweek snow, the Arctic Valley Ski Area and Tube Park will celebrate its 13th annual Merry Marmot Festival on Saturday.

The festival is a collection of events that celebrate snow sports, with proceeds supporting the Anchorage Ski Club, which runs Arctic Valley.

Kicking things off at 11 a.m. is a fat-tire bike race. Other events include a downhill dummy launch, a chairlift relay race, tube races, a snowshoe race, a downhill costume ski race, dual slalom races and snowboarding event with a half-pipe competition.

Food tickets to a barbecue on the sun deck will be available.

Lift tickets cost $35, with senior, active military, and student discounts available. Tube park tickets are $15 for a 1.5-hour session.

Arctic Valley will close for the season after the April 8-9 weekend.
