Alaska State Parks to waive parking fees Friday

Outdoor enthusiasts looking to work off their Thanksgiving dinner are getting a nudge to visit Alaska’s state parks Friday.

Alaska State Parks will waive parking fees at all parks it manages on the day after Thanksgiving, the state Department of Natural Resources announced Tuesday.

Additionally, at an event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Glen Alps trailhead in Anchorage, 2019 day-use parking passes will be sold for $50 each. (Purchases will be accepted by credit card only.) The event, meant to encourage people to get outside on Black Friday, will also feature complimentary samples of macaroons from backcountry food company Heather’s Choice and free coffee from SteamDot.
