Campbell Creek king salmon belong to the kids this weekend

Kids will take over Campbell Creek this weekend for a youth-only king salmon fishery.

From 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, kids 15 and younger can fish for kings between Dimond Boulevard and the Old Seward Highway.

Although adults can help kids land a king, that section of the creek is closed to all fishing, including catch-and-release, for anglers 16 and older during this time.

From about 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Alaska Department of Fish and Game staff and volunteers will be at the Taku-Campbell Lake parking lot off 76th and King Street to help young anglers. Fishing rods will be available during this time on a first-come basis.

Kids don't need a sport fishing license or a king salmon stamp but they do need a Harvest Record Card. Any king salmon harvested must be recorded immediately on the card.
