Iditarod dog Jimbo is found after escaping in Anchorage

Jimbo, the dog that escaped in Anchorage after being dropped from an Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race musher’s team, was found Friday after going missing the previous day, race representatives said.

After Jimbo’s location was called in to the Iditarod, dog handlers responded and collected him near Minnesota Drive and Tudor Road around 12:15 p.m. Friday, according to Iditarod representatives. A veterinarian checked out the sled dog and determined he was in good health.

Jimbo belongs to Aniak musher Richie Diehl’s team and escaped from the returned dog area at the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel during a veterinarian check Thursday morning.

Jimbo ate a meal and was picked up a family member of Diehl’s, Iditarod officials said in a statement.
