Due to recent snowfall, Denali State Park in Alaska's Interior announced Thursday their intention to open the park to snowmachine use on Friday, Jan. 18. The opening covers the park's entire area, including the Curry and Kesugi Ridges and the road corridor south of Byers Lake.
Park staff agree that there is now sufficient snow cover for a protective base layer. The base layer needed to be established before any snowmachine activity could be permitted in the park in order to ensure the protection of underlying park vegetation from traffic damage.
Though there is now adequate snow, park service officials ask that all snowmachiners ride with caution and remind everyone that "all snowmobiles must be registered with the Division of Motor Vehicles to legally operate on public land."
