Sen. Dan Sullivan plans public town hall in North Pole on Friday

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan plans to hold a town hall in North Pole on Friday.

The open event will follow several days in Fairbanks for the Arctic Council ministerial meeting, and time spent earlier in the day in Delta Junction, according to Sullivan's spokesman Mike Anderson.

Having "the town hall in North Pole will maximize his opportunity to visit both ends of the Borough," Anderson said in an email.

Sullivan plans to provide a "brief congressional update," followed by a Q&A session with the crowd. None of the questions will be pre-screened, Anderson said.

Anderson said the senator has held similar events in Homer, Petersburg and Wainwright this year. In February, he held a forum with business leaders at the exclusive Petroleum Club in Anchorage while protesters outside decried congressional efforts to overturn the Affordable Care Act and that he wasn't holding a town hall open to the general public in the city.

In the Lower 48, angry constituents have taken to a rowdy airing of grievances in town halls held by Republican congressmen, often broadcast live online.

The event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the North Pole Worship Center, 3340 Badger Road, and is open to the public.
