New political group forms to support ‘good governance’ ballot measure

A new political group has formed to support a citizens' initiative that could appear on next year's ballot, but its organizers are divulging little.

Noah Star, who worked earlier this year as an aide to Sitka Democratic state Rep. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, filed paperwork Wednesday with the Alaska Public Offices Commission to establish "Alaskans for Integrity."

The group will support a "good governance" initiative, Star wrote. He referred questions to Kreiss-Tomkins and political consultant Jim Lottsfeldt, who both declined to comment.

The group hasn't filed an initiative application yet with the state Division of Elections, according to the division's website, but supporters often register political groups before doing so to ensure that they comply with campaign finance laws.

Three other initiative applications have already been filed with the elections division in advance of next year's election. One would boost protections for salmon habitat; two others would enshrine provisions of the federal Affordable Care Act in state law.

Lottsfeldt is also working on the health care initiatives.
