Sullivan staffer nominated for position in State Department

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has nominated Manisha Singh, an adviser to Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan, as an assistant secretary of state for economic and business affairs.

The post is the same one that Sullivan held under the George W. Bush administration from 2006 to 2009.

Singh is currently chief counsel and senior policy adviser to Sullivan. She previously held positions as deputy assistant secretary of state in the Bureau of Economic, Energy and Business Affairs and as a senior aide on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, according to the White House.

Singh has also worked at law firms and an investment bank. She has a master's degree in international legal studies from American University, a law degree from the University of Florida, and a B.A. from the University of Miami, which, according to the White House, she received at age 19.

The nomination was announced Thursday evening, the same day that Sullivan's chief of staff, Joe Balash, went before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee for his confirmation hearing for an assistant secretary position at the Interior Department.
