Alaska Rep. Don Young votes against both impeachment counts and calls the proceedings a ‘circus’

Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, voted against both counts of presidential impeachment on Wednesday as President Donald Trump became the third president in U.S. history to be impeached by Congress.

“I have seen no evidence of an impeachable offense. That is why I voted NO on both articles,” Young said in a written statement.

Young did not speak on the floor of the U.S. House, where members offered verbal arguments for six hours before the final vote was tallied.

Young’s votes were expected; he had previously called the impeachment inquiry “a waste of time” and said it was politically motivated.

The impeachment process now goes to the Senate, where Young predicted it will fail:

“From the moment President Trump was elected, Congressional Democrats have been working to undermine him; trying to undo the results of the 2016 election. Frankly, this has been a political stunt all along. The impeachment process is very serious, and if Democrats are so intent on removing the President from office, they should leave that up to the American people to decide on Election Day, and not through an entirely partisan process with a pre-determined outcome. House Democrats tried to take down President Trump with the Mueller Report and failed. When this circus makes its way to the Senate, they will fail once again."
