Joe Miller has scored many endorsements in his 2014 campaign for U.S. Senate but surely one of the most notable comes from Joe Arpaio, the law enforcement official in Arizona's Maricopa County known as "America's toughest sheriff."
The 82-year-old Arpaio -- who has attracted both praise and a U.S. Justice Department lawsuit for his hard-line stance on immigration and treatment of Latinos -- is featured in an automated call on Miller's behalf, in which he says that Miller is "Alaska's best choice for U.S. Senate."
"Hello, this is Sheriff Joe Arpaio. You know, our borders are busted, and Washington does nothing -- but Joe Miller will stop the nonsense," Arpaio says. "Joe Miller is the only candidate for Senate with a plan to secure our border to stop illegal invasion."
On Thursday morning, one of Miller's supporters posted a request for another endorsement -- on the Facebook wall of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. But as of Thursday evening, Cruz had not responded.
Cruz's campaign on Monday referred Alaska Dispatch News to the senator's Washington, D.C., office, which did not respond to an email message about whether Cruz planned to make an endorsement.
