Anti-gay Chick-fil-A: Sarah Palin tweets support for restaurant

Sarah Palin jumped into the great Chick-fil-A debate by tweeting her support for the controversial chicken chain, calling it a "great business."

Palin and her husband Todd are the latest in a string of conservative public figures to throw their support behind Chick-fil-A after controversial comments by it's boss in support of "the biblical definition of the family unit."

Chick-fil-A president CEO Dan Cathy riled gay marriage supporters earlier this month by telling a Baptist newspaper that Americans are collectively "shaking our fist" at God for allowing gay couples to wed.

Palin also linked to a Facebook photo of herself and Todd holding up full bags from Chick-fil-A and smiling.

Others quickly threw their opinions into the ring with national politicians like Nancy Pelosi, Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum jumping into the debate.

Several big city mayors including Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, Boston's Thomas Menino and San Franciscos Edwin Lee, have said they will try to block Chick-fil-A's from opening in their cities."Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values," Emanuel said. Boseon's Menino wrote a letter to Cathy, saying "There is no place for discrimination on Boston's Freedom Trail and no place for your company alongside it," though he acknowelged there was little he could do to prevent the chain from operating in the city.

New York's Michael Bloomberg disagreed, saying Friday that it was "inappropriate" to use political views to determine if a business can operate in the city, reports the New York Times. "That's just not government's job," he said.
