Bill would update Alaska laws to reflect same-sex marriage rights

JUNEAU — Alaska laws would be updated to replace terms like "husband" and "wife" with language reflecting the legalization of same-sex marriage under legislation introduced in the state House.

The bill, HB 342, touches on a range of areas including adoption, divorce and property rights.

In a release, Democratic Rep. Andy Josephson said the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage is not reflected in state laws. He says there's a housekeeping nature to proposed changes in the bill, but the changes would have a significant effect in recognizing the rights of same-sex couples in Alaska.
