Flags ordered lowered for Peace Officers Memorial Day

JUNEAU -- Gov. Bill Walker has ordered that state flags be flown at half-staff on Friday in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Walker, in a release, says he and first lady Donna Walker remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

He said he encourages Alaskans to give thanks for the state's law enforcement officers and their families and for the contributions they make to keep Alaska communities safe.

Flags will be raised to full-staff on Saturday.
