John Birch Society wonders about Palin

Art Thompson, CEO of the John Birch Society, posted an op-ed today in which he explores the shifting and contradictory relationship former Governor Sarah Palin has with grassroots conservatives and the neoconservative establishment. Thompson thinks that despite her speech in Nashville containing "glittering generalities" and fervent support of the troops, Palin's remarks to the National Tea Party Convention expose her as an "internationalist" aligned squarely with the "unconstitutional" establishment, the same establishment that refuses to recognize that "Moscow" is the main driving force behind international terrorism (which Thompson claims the John Birch Society "has proven over and over"). In the end, Thompson decides Palin is, unwittingly or not, "obviously a mainstream Republican," and he can only hope she won't be "a pawn for the Establishment to help control their own opposition."
