Alaskans take great pride in their homeland, which makes one wonder why Sullivan hadn't planned his vacation around the ceremony, rather than taking the oath on some faraway island.

As you may recall, she was on the verge of giving birth to her son Trig in spring 2008 while at a conference in Texas. Rather than going to a hospital in Texas, she got on a plane and flew to Seattle. Then continued on a jet to Anchorage. And then Palin drove some 40 minutes to a hospital in the Mat-Su Valley -- her homeland -- to give birth to Trig.
Why did she go to such extremes?
Her husband Todd Palin summed it up at the time: "You can't have a fish picker from Texas."
As for Sullivan, the location of where he takes the oath of office for his second term as mayor apparently doesn't matter much. He'll return to lead his city when his family vacation is over.
