Collins, Cromer conquer Nome's Anvil Mountain Run

Hometown runner Jeff Collins seized the overall title by nearly two minutes and women's winner Elaina Cromer finished seventh overall in the 36th annual Anvil Mountain Run in Nome on Friday.

Collins made the march up the mountain to an elevation of 1,132 feet and back down – the total distance of the race is 12.5 miles -- in 1 hour, 21 minutes, 50 seconds. That put him 1:40 ahead of teenager and runner-up Wilson Hoogenboom (1:23:30) of Nome. Nils Hahn of Nome finished third in 1:25:30.

Cromer, of Xenia, Ohio, finished seventh overall and tops among women in 1:31:58. Crystal Tobuk of Nome was second among women in 1:35:06 and AnnieKate Olson of Nome finished third among women in 1:41:54.

David Olson of Nome completed his 30th consecutive Anvil Mountain Run in 1:59:39 to finish 21st overall among 41 finishers. Runners from Texas, Nebraska and Nevada also competed.
