A 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of the Alaska Peninsula early Saturday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. It was located at a depth of about 21 miles.

The quake shook the Anchorage area at 8:05 a.m. Thursday.
Geologists said it was unlikely the quake could have generated a large tsunami in Anchorage, about 500 miles northeast of the epicenter.
The Wednesday morning earthquake was another aftershock of the magnitude 7.1 quake that rocked the Anchorage area in November 2018
The shake, an aftershock of last year’s 7.1 earthquake, was centered about nine miles north of Anchorage in the Point Mackenzie area.
The quake was felt from Whitehorse to Sitka.
None of the 600 objects in the Arctic Studies Center at the Anchorage Museum appear to have been damaged, but repairs to display cases took more than four months
The Alaska Earthquake Center says the earthquake occurred about 55 miles northwest of Amchitka, in the Rat Islands.
Biological samples to be tested for tuberculosis and botulism have been sent to California and Washington since the Nov. 30 quake damaged the Anchorage facility.
Representatives from the disaster agency will be available at the Z.J. Loussac Public Library.
“This has been an eventful hour,” wrote officials with the Alaska Earthquake Center.
A state and federal review estimates the earthquake caused $28 million in damage to homes and $48 million to infrastructure so far.
Students return Tuesday. Teachers return on Monday.
