Photos: 14th annual Frozen Turkey disc golf tournament

On a crisp Saturday in November, around 45 disc golf enthusiasts showed up at the Westchester Lagoon Park disc golf course hauling their discs and a frozen turkey.

The entry fee for the day's event, the 14th annual Frozen Turkey Tournament, was -- wait for it -- a frozen turkey, to be donated to Bean's Cafe.

"(The year) 2000 was the beginning of disc golf in Alaska, and as we grew, we wanted to give back, and the Frozen Turkey Tournament was one way we decided to do that," said Tim Kosednar, who has been involved with the Alaska Disc Golf Association since its inception.

In 2013 the group collected more 1,200 pounds of turkey, which was donated to Bean's Cafe and will help feed their clients throughout the holiday season.

This year's tournament raised 1,436 pounds of frozen turkey.

Despite the charity focus, the event was an actual Professional Disc Golf Association sanctioned tournament, and the players took it seriously.

The winner of the 14th annual Frozen Turkey Tournament open class was Joe Schacht, with a score of 86, 22 under par.
