Photos: Anchorage Symphony Orchestra's 70th season

For the next six months Alaskans will endure more dark than daylight. But a dazzling onslaught of performing and fine arts events is waiting in the wings to see us through to spring.

The Anchorage Symphony Orchestra season opener will kick things off with a properly noisy fanfare, 20-some brass instruments braying out the first movement from Janacek's "Sinfonietta." Van Cliburn medalist Joyce Yang should supply a pretty enjoyable rendering of the Grieg Piano Concerto, too.
