Students and family members came to Mountain View Elementary School in Anchorage on Thursday evening, Dec. 3, 2015, to participate in one of several family nights that the school hosts each year. Literacy was the theme this time. Kids played various word games for prizes, gathered in the multipurpose room for chili and had pictures taken with a visiting reindeer. They also took home activities designed to encourage reading. "One of the things that we want to do is engage our parents and community to come into the school building after hours and do some additional activities and have some fun with the family," said Lori Moore, coordinator for the school's parent outreach and after-school programs. About 175 people participated.
