Photos: Model train show at Alaska Railroad Depot

The Military Society of Model Railroad Engineers is showing some of its members' trains at the Alaska Railroad Depot this week to coincide with Fur Rendezvous events. The organization, founded in 1982, is based at Matanuska Hall on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Group organizer Randy "B.J." Bjorgan, a founding member, said he got his first train set when he was 6 years old. He said the look in the eyes of children when they see the models is what keeps him interested. "It's a miniature world, and you can build anything you want," he said. The possibilities are endless for creating realistic-looking scenes. "Model railroads are never done," he said. The train show continues at the depot from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Saturday, March 7, 2015.
