UPDATE: At this time, Anchorage Daily News will be following the guidance of CDC and implementing preventive and responsive strategies. In light of the recently declared State of Emergency and the appeal of our Municipality for citizens to practice measures to slow the spread of COVID-19, we have decided to postpone the Alaska State Spelling Bee.
The Alaska State Spelling Bee will be taking place at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts' Discovery Theater in downtown Anchorage on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at 9:00 AM. With more schools this year than any other year, over 180 students from all over the state will be competing at this year’s State Bee. Students competing are all between 2nd and 8th grade, with a mix of public schools, private schools, charter schools and home schools. From Nome to the Aleutians to the Panhandle, spelling bee champions from schools all over Alaska come together to vie for the title of Alaska State Spelling Bee Champion. Once the winner has been established, they will then go on for their chance to compete against spellers from around the country at the
2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Join us at the Alaska Center for Performing Arts on April 22 to show your support to our young Alaskan spellers!
