Soldotna's Cory Davis places 7th in X Games freestyle competition

After getting shut out of the X Games medals on Saturday, Cory Davis of Soldotna will try to get on the podium Sunday in the best trick competition in Aspen, Colorado.

Davis placed seventh Saturday in the snowmobile freestyle competition, where Joe Parsons of Yakima, Washington, won the gold medal and thrilled the crowd by performing a volt — a 360-degree body spin executed as his machine was flying through the air.

Davis, a six-time X Games medalist and veteran of Alaska's Iron Dog, is one of two Alaskans competing at the X Games.

Paul Thacker of Anchorage placed fifth in Thursday's snowcross adaptive race.
