Alaska softball players Tufi, Page lead La. Tech into NCAA tournament

A pair of Anchorage softball players will help Louisiana Tech take on the country's top-ranked team Friday morning in the first round of the NCAA Division I tournament.

Senior Pauline Tufi and sophomore Taria Page both wield big bats for the Techsters, who rode Tufi's seventh-inning home run to a 1-0 victory in the championship game of last week's Conference USA tournament.

The victory over Florida International sent Louisiana Tech (37-22) to the national tournament for the first time since 2008. Tufi, Page and their teammates face Minnesota (54-3) in a four-team regional tournament in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Tufi, a West High grad, and Page, an East High grad, are among Tech's RBI leaders, with more than 30 apiece. Tufi boasts a team-high eight home runs and Page is hitting around .335.

Friday's game will be aired on ESPNU.
