Petit also won the Knik 200 Joe Redington Sr. Memorial Sled Dog Race last weekend. The Copper Basin win marked Petit's first in that race after years of trying.

Both races are qualifiers for the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest.

Petit crossed the finish line in Glennallen at 7:13 p.m. Monday, according to the race's Facebook page. Dan Kaduce followed him in second place.

Petit beat a number of other experienced mushers including Quest champion Allan Moore and perennial Iditarod challenger Aliy Zirkle. Moore came in third and Zirkle sixth.

Petit, who placed third in last year's Iditarod, races out of Girdwood.
