Gomez headlines inaugural class of Alaska hockey hall of fame

Two-time Stanley Cup winner Scott Gomez headlines the Alaska State Hockey Association's inaugural Hall of Fame class, which will be inducted in an afternoon ceremony Saturday in Anchorage.

Gomez, an Anchorage man who won NHL championships with the New Jersey Devils in 2000 and 2003, is among seven inductees:

Dan Rogness of Anchorage and Darlene Tragis of Fairbanks, who will be honored for their administrative contributions.

— Dennis Sorenson of Anchorage and Roger McKinnon of Fairbanks, who will be recognized for their coaching contributions.

— Clay Wallace, a longtime on-ice official.

— The 1990 Alaska All Stars bantam team, the first youth team from Alaska to capture a national championship. Sparked by players like David Valliers, Chris Marvel, Brandon Carlson, Kirby Senden, Maurice Hall, Ray Friesen and Todd Bethard, the team won the Tier I title for 14 and 15 year olds.

Inductees will be honored at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Coast International Inn.
