Kelly Hollister claims Alaska match play golf title

Kelly Hollister captured the women's championship in last weekend's Alaska match play golf championship at Settlers Bay.

Second place went to Darci Trimmer.

During the qualifying round of stroke play, Hollister placed second and Trimmer was fifth in a field of nine women, with Hollister firing an 81 and Trimmer an 84. Claiming medalist honors was Connie Rummel, who carded an 80.

In the men's competition, Greg Sanders beat Adam Baxter on the first playoff hole of the final match. Benji Sumulong claimed the senior men's championship by defeating Rick Boyles.

The three-day Alaska Golf Association tournament attracted golfers from Anchorage, the Valley, Fairbanks, Juneau, Homer and Seldovia.

(An early headline on this story included the wrong first name for Hollister.)
