Wolverines, Wolves get wins as CIC hockey season resumes

The South Wolverines and the Eagle River Wolves cruised to victories as high school hockey teams returned to the ice this week after an unexpected week off thanks to the earthquake.

South remained undefeated in Cook Inlet Conference play with a 2-0 victory Monday over Chugiak at the McDonald Center. The game was the first since the Nov. 30 earthquake shut down Anchorage public schools for a week.

Ryan Bailey and Nicholas Corbin scored goals and Hannah Hagenson made 19 saves to lead South, which improved to 5-0 in CIC play.

On Tuesday, Eagle River rolled past Service 8-1 at Ben Boeke Arena. Skyler Johnson scored two goals and three assists and Logan Dudinski chipped in two goals and an assist for the winners. Ben Martensen’s third-period goal spared Service from being shut out for two nights in a row.

CIC games that were postponed as a result of the earthquake will be made up in January, according to the conference website.
