Thirty-five sled dog teams left the Gakona start line Saturday for the Copper Basin 300.

One-quarter of the way through the 300-mile race, Robert Redington held a slim lead over Brent Sass.

All 35 mushers had passed through Chistochina and were on their way to Meier’s Lake Roadhouse on Saturday night.

The race will make stops at Sourdough and Point Lodge at Lake Louise before ending Monday in Glennallen.
